NEW ORLEANS – Damon J. Batiste & NOSACONN, Inc. [New Orleans South Africa Connection] are proud to announce a three-part series produced by CNN International Productions about New Orleans which features four generations of sounds of the Damon J. Batiste Family music.
“Our family’s cultural brand of music has been woven through the fabric of New Orleans for over 40 years. It is very fitting that CNN selected our post-Katrina music to be used as part of the soundtrack for this series about our great City”, says Batiste.

David R. Batiste Sr. – New Orleans Hall of Famer: “New Orleans is Coming Back”
“During the time I lived in Dallas, Texas after Katrina, I had a vision that the people of New Orleans will come back and rebuild our City. I decided to write a song entitled “New Orleans is Coming Back.” Next I began to think about some things that represent New Orleans, so I began to put the words together for the song.” says Batiste, Sr. “PS… New Orleans has some of the best bars and nightclubs in the United States. I put the lyrics with the music and the soul of those venues!” he added.
Russell Batiste: “Hey Hey, Get on Down”
Russell composed “Hey Hey, Get On Down” as his own Tribute to New Orleans Anthems.
There are many Anthems like “When the Saints Go Marching In”; it’s about New Orleans Culture!
So this song is Russell Batiste’s New Orleans Anthem. His hope is that the world will give it a title as another New Orleans anthem!
Jamal Batiste: “Just Do You”
The creation of “Just Do You”, produced by Jamal Batiste and written by Michael Batiste, Candace Sharper, and Alana Creecy, came about during a time that preceded one of the most difficult moments of their lives. Where as most inspiration comes during or after an experience, theirs served as almost a premonition of the confidence, hope and faith they would need to overcome. Out of a desire to put a positive new spin on New Orleans native bounce music, they came up with the uplifting, feel good content that they pray embodies the true spirit of this song to all who listen to it.
Jordan Batiste [aka: Ka$h Akbar ]: “The Statement”
“The Statement” was created from the perspective of Ka$h Akbar, a young teen in New Orleans who knew that to get where he wanted in life he would have to go against the grain and do things differently from his peers. “The Statement” was written by Ka$h Akbar and Toi Whitney and was produced by New Orleans’ very own Jamal Batiste, a legendary musician in New Orleans. “The Statement” was created to touch any individual who feels that putting in overtime for his or her dream is more important than going out and partying every night and for those who believe that their passion will take them places that only a chosen few will go.
Damon J. Batiste’s role in his family’s musical culture and heritage is that of “Visionary.” He is the Culture Ambassador of the New Orleans South Africa Connection [NOSACONN] and is also a father, musician, producer, music educator and a proud New Orleanian. He is values his position as a member and descendant of Batiste Musician Family Tree. The Ten Year Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina is this August. Damon is preparing a number of events to honor our great City’s resilience through disaster.
As a result of Damon’s diligent and dedicated national and international work on behalf of the City of New Orleans, he was recently hand selected by Mayor Mitch Landrieu to the International Engagement Committee of the 2018 NOLA Foundation to celebrate New Orleans’ 300th Anniversary-The Tricentennial.
