Grammy Awards 2024: Jon Batiste nominated for album of the year

The five-time Grammy winner’s latest recording World Music Radio is up for the Grammys’ biggest award, alongside albums by Taylor Swift, Janelle Monáe, Lana Del Rey, Miley Cyrus, Boygenius, Olivia Rodrigo, and SZA. The icon has collaborated with the Mzansi Youth choir in 2023.

Jon Batiste has received six nominations for the 66th annual Grammy Awards, including his second nod for album of the year. Born and bred in New Orleans, one of Nosaconn bred artists who’ve visited South Africa Alongside Damon J. Batiste.

Jonathan Michael Batiste (born November 11, 1986)[2] is an American musician, singer, songwriter, composer, bandleader, and television personality.[3] He has recorded and performed with artists in various genres of music (Stevie WonderPrinceWillie NelsonLenny KravitzEd SheeranLana Del ReyRoy Hargrove, and Mavis Staples), released his own recordings, and performed in more than 40 countries. Batiste, with his band Stay Human,[4] appeared nightly as bandleader and musical director on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert from 2015 to 2022.[5][6]

Batiste also serves as the music director of The Atlantic and the Creative Director of the National Jazz Museum in Harlem. In 2020, he co-composed the score for the Pixar animated film Soul, for which he received an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, a Grammy Award and a BAFTA Film Award (all shared with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross).[7] As of 2022, Batiste has garnered 5 Grammy Awards from 14 nominations, including an Album of the Year win for his album We Are.[8]

The Nosaconn admired South African Youth Choir thrills the World with an Outstanding performance on America’s Got Talent. The choir is one of the Talent that the New Orleans South Africa Connection Organisation has close acquintances with and has been with it since the earlier days of Engagement with the Organisation’s founder and President, Damon J. Batiste.

 

Mr. Batiste continues to wish Greatest victory to the Youth Choir on all its upcoming Perfomances in the Competitions on the International Platform. As Part of the New Orleans South Africa Connection Fundamental ethos, it is to the Organisation’s utmost rejoices to support the South African Talent in achieving best of its endeavours.

NATIONAL AFRICAN AMERICAN JAZZ LEGACY MUSEUM

The mission of the National African American Jazz Legacy Museum will be to provide a valuable new destination for jazz and music lovers that will provide a museum that traces the evolution of music brought from Africa through the belly of the slave ship into the various musical forms that have provided the soundtrack for the lives of African Americans throughout the centuries and wherever the slave ships dropped off its human cargo.


 The purpose of the National African American Museum is to preserve, promote and present this jazz legacy by inspiring knowledge, appreciation and the celebration of jazz locally, nationally and internationally.
