BlackTech Weekend Brings National Tour to New Orleans with Karen Civil

NEW ORLEANS – As the African-American community flocks to New Orleans for the 23rd annual Essence Festival, BlackTech Weekend NOLA will amplify Black entrepreneurs in tech, media and music. In addition to Digital Marketing StrategistKaren Civil, whose influential clients span from rapper YG to Hillary Clinton, attendees will hear from Jarrett Shorts, Anastasia Wright (VP of Digital for Essence Festival headliner Janet Jackson) and local entrepreneur, International Festival Producer Damon Batiste.

“Being a Pioneer member of the original Essence Festival team in 1995, this is brilliant way to bring it back a “party with a purpose” slogan. New Orleans needs to support this the way we support the (New Orleans) Saints and other events. I hope people will join the Damon J. Batiste Family on this journey of education, leadership to advance import export trade, fashion, art, culture and music in the new digital age. I am so glad that

BlackTech Weekend has come to NOLA to work with us to embrace innovation and job creation.” said Batiste.

Since 2015, BlackTech Week has united over 3,000 Black professionals and and over 200 speakers. BlackTech Week speakers have ranged from Black Panther Party founder Bobby Seale, Snowfall FX star Amin Joseph and Karen Hunter, host of Sirius XM’s The Karen Hunter Show. All while partnering with companies such foundering sponsor Knight Foundation, Barclays, Etsy, Comcast and Samsung NEXT to create opportunities for

Black entrepreneurs.

“My husband Derick Pearson and I started Blacktech Week as a way to increase the way the Black community is valued and elevate how the Black community adds value to the innovation economy outside of Silicon Valley. We meticulously curate programming and workshops that remind our community of what is possible when we come together.” said BlackTech Week Co-founder Felecia Hatcher.
