BB King’s Blues Club and Batiste Family Launch Official Partnership with Live Recording
(New Orleans, LA August 20, 2019) BB King’s Blues Club New Orleans and the Batiste Family have
teamed up to establish BB King’s as the premier venue for excellent, locally-rooted blues, soul, funk, and
rock n’ roll music and are seeking avenues to preserve the legacy and future of New Orleans music. In
celebration of their official partnership, the Batiste Family musicians are live recording their
Tuesday, August 20th performances. David Batiste, pioneer of New Orleans funk, kicks off the
performance at 5pm. He will be followed by Jamal and Damon Batiste at 7pm. Russell Batiste and
Friends will round out the evening and recording from 8-11pm. The City Council, Mayor’s office, and
the French Quarter Corporation have been invited to help celebrate the partnership and support the
preservation of New Orleans music and tradition of educating locals and tourists alike on our city’s rich
musical history.
The Batiste Family has a long and storied history in the music industry in New Orleans as well as all over
the world. David Batiste is a legend in the field of music as founder and bandleader of David Batiste and
the Gladiators. He is most notably known for his soul classic ‘Funky Soul (Parts 1 and 2)’. Today he
continues to be in demand internationally as a pioneer of New Orleans funk music. Russell Batiste, Jr,
David’s son, started playing drums at the age of four and began playing in the family’s band when he was
only seven. After a two-year stay with Charmaine Neville’s band, Russell joined The Meters band (Funky
Meters) in 1989 as a replacement for Zigaboo Modeliste. Two of David’s other sons, Damon and Ryan,
also perform with their father’s band, as well as grandson Christopher Batiste.
The Batiste Family, powered by Damon Batiste and NOSACONN Inc, plays every Tuesday night at BB
King’s Blues Club beginning at 5pm and always include special local guests from around New Orleans.
BB King’s Blues Club is a two-story local, live music entertainment club and restaurant situated in the
French Quarter that hosts local blues, soul, funk and rock n’ roll bands seven days a week. Rooted in BB
King’s love for excellent music and delicious food, the club serves to provide unique and lasting memories
for every guest who walks through the door.
